An autonomous vehicle refers to a vehicle that can recognize the surrounding environment, avoid obstacles, and drive itself to a designated destination without a driver's manipulation using various sensors such as radar, cameras, LIDAR, and GPS attached to the vehicle.

 

Metabuild has been developing a platform to support autonomous vehicles in terms of road infrastructure. This platform is applied with an integrated cooperative autonomous driving control technology that complements the function of autonomous vehicles by analyzing, processing, and providing information required by autonomous vehicles using data collected from various sensors such as radar, CCTV, and environmental sensors on the road, facilities, and autonomous vehicles.

The vehicle's On Board Unit (OBU) and the infrastructure (road scene and transportation center) system of the autonomous vehicle are connected in real time using wireless communication technologies such as LTE, 5G, and WAVE to collect vehicle status and location data. The collected data is stored in the data hub system and analyzed and processed in real time using the data to be used in various fields such as monitoring as well as safety evaluation of the vehicle's operating status, whether it is out of route, analysis of the driving relationship between neighboring vehicles and autonomous vehicles, analysis of existing driving history, and replay.

 

Metabuild's "Cooperative Autonomous Management System Platform (SMART-CAMS)" integrates real-time information on the driving information (vehicle and sensor) of autonomous vehicles. 1) Collect vehicle status and location data from autonomous vehicles, 2) store, manage, and analyze these data in the platform's data hub, and 3) control autonomous vehicles in real-time by displaying the location, condition, and traffic signal on the road's precise road in the area where the autonomous vehicle is moving. 4) It transmits traffic information and emergency situation information on the front road required by autonomous vehicles in real-time to support autonomous vehicles to use them for safe and efficient autonomous driving.

 

Metabuild's SMART CAMS is characterized by providing digital twin technology that can provide real-time traffic conditions, unexpected situations, and autonomous vehicle driving conditions in the area using precise road maps so that road managers can easily identify and respond to situations.

 

The system is currently installed at the control center of the organization that operates self-driving vehicle test roads (providing grounds) and actual roads (autonomous vehicle test zones) that are authorized to operate autonomous vehicles, so that managers can control vehicle information and driving information of self-driving vehicles in real time and enable safe autonomous driving.

"We need to go through a safety evaluation process to ensure that self-driving cars can drive safely on public roads, and Metabuild's Cooperative Autonomous Driving Management Platform provides the ability to evaluate whether the evaluation process has been faithfully performed by collecting the behavior, status data, and driving history of self-driving cars on the self-driving evaluation process, so its use will spread to self-driving car test institutions, self-driving car license issuing institutions, and robotaxi operators in the future," said Park Jae-hyung, CTO of Metabuild.

In addition, by collecting and analyzing camera images of vehicles using high-speed ultra-low latency communication networks such as 5G and securing technology to control the driving behavior of autonomous vehicles, it can also be used in business areas that require integrated control of autonomous vehicles in control centers such as autonomous shuttles and autonomous taxis in the future.

Metabuild has supplied "SMART CAMS" to a number of autonomous driving testbeds and autonomous vehicle evaluation systems, and is carrying out a number of projects this year, and plans to continue to spread them to develop cooperative autonomous driving technology in the future.​
